Golfing holidays and cycle tyres on the Internet

Almost everybody looks forward to being able to take a couple of weeks off work every year and relax with friends or family. Some people are happy just lying on a beach all day and hitting a few nightclubs in the evening whereas others are keen to make the most of their break by organising various activities that they can enjoy with likeminded individuals. If you belong to the latter group, there are many online resources with details of the biking and golfing facilities that are available in various parts of the world so it should be fairly easy to arrange a great holiday. It is also possible to buy new components for your cycle over the Internet, making it easy to refurbish your machine and ensure it is roadworthy before heading off on a tour of the Italian Alps or somewhere equally exciting. Whether you own a trusty commuter model that has been in the family for years or a state-of-the-art touring cycle that has yet to see any serious action, it is advisable to take a selection of spares with you when you go on a foreign trip as some cycle parts may be hard to come by.

If golf is one of your passions, you will probably already have a good set of clubs but there is no harm in window shopping and online suppliers often have very good deals on offer. Whether they are good enough to tempt you will depend on your personal finances and how old your current equipment is. Thailand is a popular choice with European golfers that fancy a change of scenery and whilst you are looking at clubs, you can take a peek at some of the holiday villas in this country that have been built right next to a first class course. It is also a nice part of the world to explore on two wheels, although you may need to take it easy for the first couple of days as the temperature and humidity take a little getting used to. Whilst cities such as Bangkok and Chiang Mai are fairly modern and home to many retail outlets, if you are planning to explore more remote areas then it is definitely a good idea to take some spare rubber along and a few basic parts. Due to the climate, lightweight cycle clothing is highly recommended, whatever the time of year.

Depending on the length of your proposed vacation, it may well be a good idea to have a meeting with your fellow holidaymakers long before setting off. In the event that you are planning an extended break, this will give you all the chance to discuss the preparations that you need to make and to order any new equipment that you may need. Large groups that would like to take a golfing holiday in Phuket or elsewhere in Thailand would be well advised to book early to ensure that they can all stay at the same resort. Similarly, a large party of cyclists that are planning to head for South East Asia may like to consider reserving villas as early as possible, to avoid disappointment. Travelling in numbers does offer some advantages such as the ability to borrow spares from a friend if you have a similar cycle and yours lets you down more than once. However, it is best not to rely on the charity of others if possible. When cycling over rough terrain there is a good chance that you will experience more than one puncture so it is worth taking plenty of cycle tyres along with you.

Whilst it is possible to organise a golfing or cycling holiday without any outside help, if you are travelling to a foreign country for the first time it may be worth consulting with somebody that has been there before. A decent travel agent should visit all of the destinations that are featured in their brochure but this is not always the case so you may like to check before relying on their advice. Online cycling and golfing clubs are quite likely to include members that have travelled abroad to indulge in their favourite pastime before, so it might be worth joining one of these in order to benefit from the experience of others. There are many websites with information on countries around the world, making it very easy to check on the likely weather conditions at the time you will be travelling. Although Thailand, as noted above, is quite hot throughout the year, if you are planning a visit during the rainy season then you might want to pack a waterproof jersey to avoid getting soaked through when there is a heavy shower. There are many online retailers that stock a wide range of such bicycle clothing at reasonable prices.

The main thing to bear in mind when planning a vacation that will include a number of activities such as golf and cycling is that the whole idea of a holiday is to enjoy yourself. This might sound like an obvious piece of advice but it is easy to get overenthusiastic at the preparation stage and turn your break into a regimented holiday with no time available to do anything spontaneous. For those who like to play it by ear rather than make too many plans it may be a good idea to travel out of season so that there is no need to book villas and apartments in advance, otherwise it can be difficult to move around freely. The most popular golf courses are likely to be fully booked at peak times and cyclists may find busy roads rather off-putting during school holidays. The hottest time of year in Thailand is also the low season so if you can stand the heat it could be a good time to visit. However, you should bear in mind that very hot rubber may be more prone to bursting so you should ensure that you have enough cycle tyres for the trip.
